Schwarzenegger to Showcase Raser's 100-MPG Electric Hummer

by Hummer on July 18, 2011

Watch this promo video then get the complete story at TheAutoChannel.com. Raser Technologies, Inc. will join with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today to demonstrate Rasers Electric Hummer H3, designed to achieve 100 mpg for a typical daily drive of 60 miles. The H3 uses an extended range electric vehicle (E-REV) powertrain developed by Raser Technologies. The Hummer H3 is a mid-sized SUV, similar in size to a Jeep Commander. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will view the new plug-in electric Hummer H3 at the California State Capitol Thursday in a demonstration drive with Raser Chairman Kraig Higginson.

why not have a solar panel tray cover?

charliebrownslc August 4, 2010 at 4:57 pm

I think the auto industry must want to introduce us to electric technology slowly, and then release the more advanced in-wheel motors later on. But the way I see it, it’d be smarter to go ALL IN, and stun the world, with the most advanced electric drive system in the world. This way the public will clearly experience the difference and would never want to go back.

Why keep a traditional mechanical drive train? You could get a lot more power, ground clearance, traction control, and efficiency by eliminating the transmission, transfer-case, axles, differentials, and gears, and going with in-wheel electric motors. Check it out folks.

@GameUrg

The public will assume safety as they do the reliability of domestic cars. They wont start to question safety until something goes wrong, repeatedly.

GameUrg August 4, 2010 at 6:26 pm

@surreal5335 goodluck convincing the public…

beneehall August 4, 2010 at 6:58 pm

don’t worry about gas mileage, 2012 is coming and we are all dead, except for the NWO guys

surreal5335 August 4, 2010 at 7:55 pm

@GameUrg

This was lithium ions only problem. They tend to spark and create fires when wacked really hard (reminds me of a series of Ford lawsuits in the 70′s). The solution was a modification to the technology, Lithium iron phosfate or (LiFEPO4). Essentially the same result, just more durable. It was designed specifically for EVs

GameUrg August 4, 2010 at 8:08 pm

700 volts!!….wtf will happen if you crash tho?

ibuiltmineo1oo August 4, 2010 at 9:00 pm

@surreal5335
Well said! And I do agree!

surreal5335 August 4, 2010 at 9:48 pm

@Maples01

There is a lot of hidden costs that come with gas engines…

oil – this must gathered from multiple sources polluting the lands and shipped or transported to us, more pollution. Then used and discarded, sometimes not well, more pollution.
gas – no brainer there, transport it to the gas station, pollution. consume it, more pollution
engines – disposale creates landfill and lots of waste, making new componnets to replace old, more pollution. Transport the parts, more pollution.

@voyrnj

Seeing as we wont need very much, the high price wont matter much… Plus the high price will only fuel our concerns for alternative fuels. I love it when gas prices go up, fuel efficient cars become more in demand. The more they raise the price the sooner we wont need the fuel at all.

surreal5335 August 4, 2010 at 10:53 pm

@ibuiltmineo1oo

well fixing the pollution from the cars is the hard, fixing the pollution from the plant s will be much easier, there is already many clean options out there being created and more technologies being developed. Coal will be replaced, its just a matter of time.

BradR2723 August 4, 2010 at 11:45 pm

wonder what the future holds for this idea. im an h3 owner and a conversion would be interesting.

voyrnj August 5, 2010 at 12:37 am

but the truth is that when there will be planty of hibrids out there and there will not be too many petrol sales,, Arabs will raise the price of fuel sold to us..

ibuiltmineo1oo August 5, 2010 at 12:38 am

Not to mention all the coal that is burned to get the “clean” electricity! LOL what do you guys think? theres some magic current bush? Thats alright, I make 30 bucks an hour working at a coal mine, so Keep pluggin them im guys! Thanks!

joaquinveyron August 5, 2010 at 1:19 am

Complete rubbish this video and this car. Only that this shit doesn’t have a 100 mpg. It is just a blatant lie. This 100 mpg figure is calculated over the first 60 miles, of which 40 miles are calculated as driven by the electric motor. So they just add the gasoline in that is consumed during the last 20 miles, ignoring the energy you need to drive the vehicle of the first 40 electric miles. If this is how cars are engineered in the US and A, hahahaha

Deanzsyclone August 5, 2010 at 2:16 am

LOL, LOL, 17yo…. Quick, kick your kids out of the house while they still know it all!!!! fn noob.

Deanzsyclone August 5, 2010 at 2:57 am

That might have been true years ago but now with the electrical infestructure changing, providing electricity from more and more non coal burning plants, wind, solar, wave technlogy, ect. That is now old wife’s tail, and as time marches on it will only get cleaner, history proves this over and over.

Deanzsyclone August 5, 2010 at 3:12 am

Wayyy off base, lithium ion last a very long time, no short life span at all, unless you received a defective one at the start. My lion battery in my cordless headphones finally died and needed replacing, took 8 YEARS! Last I recall gas isn’t the safest product in the world either, get over it, life has it’s risks, and lion batteries are hardly on the list as one to be worried about.

grezzer31 August 5, 2010 at 3:58 am

Called sarcasm.
There you go, you learn something new every day.

OakViewStuds August 5, 2010 at 4:44 am

no…

Maples01 August 5, 2010 at 5:34 am

I can’t begin to explain how hazardous batteries are, as well as their short life spans, that’s right people, that in itself does far worse for the planet than the conventional gas engine.

ZaoHuZhua August 5, 2010 at 6:22 am

STFU in washington all energy here is clean!

grezzer31 August 5, 2010 at 6:54 am

Electric engines sound way better than a V8…

jeepluv76 August 5, 2010 at 6:54 am

this is worse than driving a gas version that’s just one more thing plugged into a house which will cause more CO2 one house is equivalent to 20 SUVS on the road the system should be able charge it’s self just like the hybrid does by the brakes.
